Deals on the Web

Best Deal Sites

Rebate Sites
Rebate sites REALLY work and if you're doing any amount of shopping on the web at all, why not shave off a few percent?

  • Mr Rebates - my current favorite. Has lots of sites, a simple click through tool, offers higher percentages than many competitors, and has been very reliable with sending checks.
  • Mr. Rebates

  • Ebates - one of the original rebate sites. I used to use this a lot but Mr Rebates offered more deals and higher percentages, plus with Mr. Rebates can create longer term revenue if friends you've referred shop frequently.
  • Upromise - Very good but tied to 529 plans and for me it's not as good as cash. That
said because of positive PR (it's for education) many of the vendors will offer high discounts.

Best Price Search Engines

Since many deals will sell out quickly you'll need to find ways to get quick alerts. Some of the sites allow you to sign up for email alerts and you can choose emails for each, or daily digests. But if you go the digest route you may once again find yourself late to the party.

News aggregators hook into rss feeds from the various sites. Online tools such as Google Reader or various plugins for iGoogle work well. Desktop applications such as FeedDemon (from NewsGator) are useful because they maintain a long history (allowing you to look at past deals for a product) and give you the ability to search for keywords (say TurboTax) and only see deals for that product.
